Pinot Noir at Bethel Heights. Thirty-seven of the forty-nine acres of our original estate vineyard are planted to Pinot noir, in seven different blocks, including six different clones. The Wadenswil clone at Bethel Heights is a late ripener, usually harvested about ten days after the more widely planted Pommard clone. It also tends to have higher acidity, bigger clusters and smaller berries - hence darker color - than the Pommard. Over the years the Wadenswil clone has helped define the character of our Estate Grown Pinot Noir. In our warmest vintages, such as 2006, when late harvest allows the Wdenswil clone to achieve maximum flavor development, it yields exceptional wines of distinctive character, and then we select a few barrels for a block-designated wine.

Tastes like really, really good red wine. Hard to separate all the flavors. Which varietal is lending which notes Who knows Who cares Rounded, lush, layered and lovely, the ultimate food wine, pairing well with everything from pasta and pizza to grilled meat and roasted chicken. Blackberries, currants and dark cherry combine with roasted coffee, melted dark chocoloate, black pepper, soft tannins and a supple lingering finish. Crushed gently and dropped by gravity into small 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked a minimum of 48 hours, then inoculated with a variety of yeasts, hand-punched and pressed directly to barrel, where the wine finishes both primary and secondary fermentation. The wine is on 50 new oak, mostly French and American oak barrels with a compliment of Hungarian oak barrels for 16 months. Glorius Vintage resulting in rich flavors and beautifully balanced wines. Our best firehouse since the 2002 vintage.

Pinot Noir is always a great match for Thanksgiving, as the bright cherry fruits and juiciness of these wines work well with the whole spread from turkey to cranberry sauce. On the nose, there is an immediate burst of bright, fresh red fruits, including strawberry and raspberry, followed by an earthy quality. On the palate, the wine has fine texture, soft tannins, good acidity and a strong core of fruit. It is a wine that offers immediate pleasure, on it's own, or better yet, in the company of a delicious meal. All in all, the 2007 is classic Pinot Noir.

Pinot Gris is another classic Thanksgiving wine due to its ripe fruit flavors and rich mouthfeel. A beautiful golden color and aromas of white peach, mango, honeysuckle, starfruit and flint characterize the 2006 Pinot Gris. Lush and silky in the mouth, this wine has great intensity and balance with enough acidity to make it compatible with Asian foods such as curries, white fish including halibut and sole, seafood bisque and chilled melon soup. Drink it now and over the next five years, and serve it moderately chilled.

This wine is ripe and mouth filling for those who like a bolder wine with a meal. It would also be great to savor after the Thanksiving meal or beforehand, as it needs no food to be enjoyed. On the tongue, the Footbolt Shiraz maintains a wonderfully textured palate with significant bottle age. Gentle, grainy black olive flavours balance the sweeter coffee, chocolate and occasional mint characters. The hallmarks of McLaren Vale, d'Arenberg, and The Footbolt Shiraz a soft, rich middle palate, terrific texture and a long rolling finish
